Watch Me Wonder: Kyle’s Top Tips For Heading On An Outdoor Adventure | Wild Atlantic Surf CoLauren White
Wild Atlantic Surf Co seeks adventure in the wildest of ways. In the last year, our belief that adventure soothes the salty soul has only become more apparent. With restrictions in place and limited opportunity to travel, the adventurers inside of us are calling us to explore the great outdoors more and more; through surfing, open water swimming or walking.
It’s one thing that lockdown hasn’t taken, the opportunity to adventure and enjoy nature. We hope that as the good weather approaches, people will continue to live life the wild way by keeping up the hobbies that brought them inner freedom through lockdown.
For us, it’s the surf. It’s the Atlantic sea and the salty waves. It’s the community and the company that comes with surfing and water sports. It could be surfing, stand up paddleboarding, sea swimming, bodyboarding, skimboarding or windsurfing, whatever you think you might enjoy – there’s never been a better time to try it than now.
We caught up with a fellow explorer and lifestyle adventurist, Kyle Strain from @watchme_wonder. He’s here to share his insight into exploring, hiking and trying out surfing for the first time during lockdown. Kyle is a great example of living life the wild way and appreciating the wonder of nature in Northern Ireland.
Read on to hear Kyle’s take on the last year featured on our Wild Atlantic Surf Co blog and keep up with his adventures on Instagram, @watchme_wonder.
Kyle Strain from @WatchMe_Wonder,
If lockdown has taught me anything, it’s that beauty is absolutely everywhere around us. You only have to open your eyes as you set out venturing and you will be sure to find something spectacular.
Over the past year, exploring Northern Ireland has completely amazed me. During this long year, Covid has allowed me to take on new activities and adventures such as hiking, mountain biking, surfing, skimboarding and road cycling.
Out of them all, surfing is my hands-down favourite! I am new to surfing and I am still learning, but that doesn’t mean I can’t go out and enjoy myself just as much. In fact, it’s totally what makes it so much fun.
My biggest recommendation for a great start to a morning surf would be to set your alarm before sunrise, get down to the shore and just lie on your board watching the red sky light up at sunrise! It makes you feel alive and really sets you up for the day ahead. I recently experienced the most amazing sunrise. It was the calmest of days and not a wave on the sea so it really allowed me to enjoy the moment even more.
Adventuring means so much more to me than just getting out to say you have done something to fill your day. It means getting a good rest the night before, having your picnic and car packed ready to rock the next morning and getting away early to make the most of the whole day! Adventure is so much more than having the best gear. It fills you with excitement, happiness and most important of all memories. Once you make them, nothing can take them away.
